Abstract

A study conducted by Texas A&M University evaluated the economic and nutritional feasibility of solar-powered irrigation using the MajiPump in sub-humid Ethiopian highlands. The study found that farmers who adopted the solar MajiPump technology had higher potential for increased production and income from irrigated crops. The simulation results also showed that the nutrition level of farmers who adopted improved small-scale irrigation technologies improved, although it fell short in certain nutrients. The study suggests that part of the income generated from improved irrigation could be used to purchase supplemental food for improved nutrition. [Extracted from the article]
