Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers from the Chinese University of Hong Kong examined the functional and structural changes in the meibomian glands and ocular surface in patients with immunoglobulin G4-related ophthalmic disease (IgG4-ROD). The study included 64 patients with biopsy-proven IgG4-ROD and compared them to age-matched healthy controls. The results showed that IgG4-ROD patients exhibited significant differences in various ocular surface parameters compared to healthy controls, suggesting features of both aqueous tear deficiency and evaporative dry eye disease. The researchers recommend ocular surface evaluation for all newly diagnosed IgG4-ROD patients. Further studies are needed to understand the mechanism of IgG4-related dry eye disease.
