Abstract

A report from Jiangsu Normal University in Xuzhou, China discusses the development of a method for detecting multiple cytokines using a combined paper centrifugation-sers immunoassay. The researchers aimed to create a platform that could analyze biomarkers for disease diagnosis in resource-limited or emergency settings. By combining a low-cost portable paper centrifuge with surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) immunoassay, the method achieved sensitive assays with detection limits for three cytokines (IL-6, IL-1, and TNF-alpha) down to 0.86, 0.42, and 0.22 pg/mL. The researchers believe that this multifunctional platform could be applied to the development of decentralized and battery-free diagnostic devices in facility-limited areas and field settings.
