Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina explores the use of composite hydrogels for water remediation. The researchers integrated metal organic frameworks (MOFs) into polyethyleneimine-based hydrogels to create a composite system with the necessary mechanical strength and chemical affinity to function as a sorbent for water pollutants. The composite hydrogel demonstrated enhanced mechanical properties and higher adsorption capacities compared to the pristine hydrogel, making it a promising option for the removal of environmental pollutants and pharmaceuticals. This research provides valuable insights into the potential of MOF-based composite hydrogels for water treatment. [Extracted from the article]
