Abstract

A recent study published in The BMJ examined the long-term effectiveness of the live shingles vaccine. The study found that the vaccine is most effective in the first year after vaccination and then gradually decreases in effectiveness over time. However, even after ten years, the vaccine still provides some protection against shingles and its complications, even in individuals with weakened immune systems. The study used data from a large healthcare provider in the US and included over 1.5 million adults aged 50 and older. The findings suggest that further research is needed to evaluate the vaccine's effectiveness in individuals with chronic diseases. [Extracted from the article]
