Abstract
- A recent study conducted at Vrije University in Brussels, Belgium, explored the acceptance of head-mounted device-based augmented reality (AR) surgical navigation in orthopedic surgery. The study used the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) and participants drilled holes using freehand drilling, proprioceptive control, and AR assistance. The findings showed that participants' intention to use AR correlated with social influence, perceived performance improvement, and attitude towards AR. However, participants also highlighted barriers to adoption, such as user-friendliness, time efficiency, and device discomfort. The study suggests that engaging orthopedic surgeons in the development process can facilitate the creation of tailored solutions and accelerate adoption. [Extracted from the article]
