Abstract

A new study conducted by researchers from Quaid-i-Azam University in Islamabad, Pakistan, focuses on carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, which are drugs used in therapy. Carbonic anhydrases are enzymes that play a crucial role in various physiological and pathological processes. The researchers synthesized and characterized an alkyl substituted acyl thiourea compound using NMR spectroscopy. They also used single crystal X-ray diffraction to determine the molecular and crystal structures of the compound. In vitro analysis showed that the synthesized compound inhibited carbonic anhydrase activity, and molecular docking studies suggested its potential as a lead molecule for developing carbonic anhydrase enzyme inhibitors. The research has been peer-reviewed and published in the Journal of Molecular Structure. [Extracted from the article]
