Abstract

The use of thermocouples for temperature measurement provides a reliable and reproducible measurement for a variety of applications in many different disciplines. This article discussed the history of thermocouples, theory of thermocouples, thermocouple junctions, calibration of thermocouples, and thermocouple applications. Since the materials used to make thermocouples are relatively inexpensive and readily available, their use is widespread for scientific and industrial applications. From as low as - 190°C to as high as 2000°C, thermocouples are used for just about every low-cost temperature measurement application. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
