Abstract

The article reports on medical computing. This article reviews some of the historical and contemporary computer applications in medicine and biomedical research, from real-time applications to medical informatics to virtual reality. These applications are as diverse as the physical form of the computer on which they are implemented. The study of artificial intelligence and expert systems is also typically considered a central theme of medical informatics. These systems use learning and advisory strategies to assist in decisions related to diagnosis and therapy of human disease.
