Abstract

The article reports that bending grape varieties can bring benefits to a wine. The wisdom of blending grape varieties has long been recognized. Wine growing authorities around the world recognize the need for blending, so much so that, while a wine can be labeled with one grape variety for ease of customer recognition, small amounts of other varieties can legally be added without mention. Traditionally, it was assumed that any mix of high-quality grapes would make good wine. Growers focused on matching grape varieties to soils and microclimates, and then threw the best resulting grapes into the mix.
