Abstract

After patients complete multimodal treatment for breast cancer, they are usually followed with frequent routinely scheduled in-person visits with physical examination for many years. Randomized control trial data supporting the follow-up schedules that are currently recommended are limited. In this Tomorrow's Trial, Dr. Beltran-Bless and Dr. Clemons propose a randomized trial to evaluate two different breast cancer follow-up strategies. Patients would be randomly assigned to either on-demand access to a specialized nurse with annual follow up by telephone following the patient's annual mammogram versus guideline-based survivorship care. The primary end point of this noninferiority trial would be time to recurrence detection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
