Abstract
- The author describes his experiences while driving a 50 mile stretch of Interstate 29 from Vermillion to Sioux Falls. He has travelled it in all kinds of weather and notices the exit signs for all the little prairie towns. He imagines the stately mansion perched on the crest of a steep knoll, shifting colors of the fields, steel silos, barns, dense windbreaks surrounding farm houses and many other things. Deciding to stop in one of the old towns, he stands in a dim doorway and could see out a window whose wooden cover had fallen open and was swaying in the breeze.
