Abstract

Reports on the study from Brazil which found that oxidative stress in atherosclerosis-prone mouse is due to low antioxidant capacity of mitochondria. Assertion that mitochondria are the main intracellular sties of reactive oxygen species generation and are also targets for oxidative damage; Methods used to show that mitochondria from certain mice have oxidative phosphorylation efficiency; Data that provide the first evidence of how oxidative stress is generated in LDL receptor defective cells.
