Abstract

Through a MTurk survey, this study explored whether users perceived the social media platforms of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat as compatible with consuming hard and soft news on those platforms. Participants reported that Twitter and Facebook as the most working-stylecompatible social media sites in terms of consuming hard and soft news. Twitter was seen as more compatible with hard news, and Facebook was seen as more compatible with soft news consumption. This study also found that perceived compatibility between working style was often positively correlated to consuming hard and soft news on social media sites. Based on that finding, it may be surmised that it takes time to acclimate users to consuming news on a social media site. Thus, there might be a long-term gain to cultivating users on a specific social media site with a defined strategy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
