Abstract

The article cites a study which describes that fetal stem cells are advantageous for developing ex vivo gene therapy. According to scientist K. O'Donoghue and colleagues in England, fetal stem cells can be isolated from fetal blood and bone marrow as well as from other fetal tissues, including liver and kidney. Fetal blood is a rich source of hemopoietic stem cells, which proliferate more rapidly than those in cord blood or adult bone marrow. O'Donoghue and colleagues published their report in the 2004 issue of the journal "Best Practice & Research in Clinical Obstetrics & Gynaecology."
