Abstract
- The article reports that U.S. Senate Finance Chairman Charles Grassley Thursday predicted the Senate would pass legislation this year legalizing the reimportation of lower-priced prescription drugs from other countries. Grassley said strong public support for reimportation as a way to hold down soaring drug costs would trump opposition to the bill from the White House and Republican leaders in Congress. Senate Majority Leader Frist and Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Chairman Michael Enzi have opposed broad reimportation legislation, arguing the U.S. cannot guarantee that imported drugs are safe or effective.
