Abstract

The article comments on a study on the usefulness of inhaled sedation in patients with severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) due to COVID-19. It points out the limited application of volatile anesthetics for surgical anesthesia due to incompatibility with modern intensive care unit (ICU) ventilators and lack of familiarity. It suggests the potential role of sedative in minimizing harm from lung injury aside from facilitating mechanical ventilation.
