Abstract

The article discusses the attack of Germany on Norway in 1940 with the hope of capturing the Norwegian gold reserves. German Luftwaffe inflicted great damage on the port town of Åndalsnes after the train with the gold reached it. The governor of the Bank of Norway had already taken steps to protect the gold before the invasion by the Germans. Fishing boats called puffers were used to carry the Norwegian gold, and the last of the gold was finally transported to safety in England.
