Abstract
- This paper reports the results of a social network survey of individuals living in an area with a long standing gang presence: the Hollenbeck Area of the City of Los Angeles. Our primary objective is to understand the patterns of relationships between and among gang members and non-gang members. Of particular interest is how members of gangs interact with one another and with non-gang members of the community. We also examine the spatial dimensions of these relationships to determine how the traditional neighborhood-based gang rivalries influence social interactions across neighborhoods.
