The article aims to describe, measure and qualify the institutional influence of the prison on the links families in the first half of the 20th century in France. It mentions intersection of prison regulations and preserved correspondence in the files makes it possible to question the effects of the prison setting on the maintenance family ties. It also mentions construction of the social state has as its corollary a public action of increasingly strong towards working-class families.
