Abstract

There are many elements that can influence success in sport (e.g., Broom, 1986, 1991; Chalip, 1978, 1996; Douyin, 1988; Heinilä, 1989). The relationship between management and performance though, has not been extensively explored in the literature (e.g., Doherty, 1998). This study focuses on the perspective of the members of the organisations involved, in order to look at the obstacles and key elements they believed have had an influence in achieving gymnastics success in their country. The article presents their responses and tries to identify any connection between organisational elements and management that might be influential in the national sport bodies. This study presents perspectives from six different countries: Australia, Ecuador, France, Indonesia, Italy and New Zealand. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
