Abstract
- In this paper, we will describe a method of measuring the furnace temperature of a horizontal Weiss balance using a S-type thermocouple. The cold junction of this method is referenced to the ambient temperature of the room since is measured using a Pt100 resistance thermometer. The temperatures will be calculated by an Arduino Uno microcontroller, which receives a voltage signal from two transducers: the thermocouple's transducer and a Pt100 resistive transducer. These were simulated by a SPICE simulator. The voltage output from the Pt100 transducer is read using a S analog to digital converter, the model being an MCP3551 having 22 bits resolution. This voltage is measured in terms of microvolts, so we opted for a higher resolution. The furnance temperature is thus computed by Arduino and is sent UART interface to a computer that displays real-time monitoring for the temperature function graph which is also time dependent (T = f (t)).
