Abstract
- This chapter profiles Italian American artist Giovani Castano who was born in Calabria, Italy in 1896 and died in Massachusetts in 1978. A graduate of the School of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Castano studied with Philip Hale, Leslie Thompson, Huger Elliot, F. M. Lamb, and Henry James. After graduation, he worked as a scenic artist in theatres and opera houses throughout the U.S. He has painted murals for many churches and public buildings, and at the age of seventy-four, restored the Herter murals at the Boston State House. He has also restored hundreds of canvasses of various famous painters.
