Abstract
- This chapter profiles 17th century Italian American painter Constantino Brumidi. Brumidi, who came to the U.S. in 1852, brought with him the glorious Italian art of fresco painting. Brumidi was a student at the Roman Academy of Fine Arts and the Academy of San Luca. Brumidi was eventually recalled from Mexico and given a small commission to work on the decoration of the United States Capitol Building.He also depicted in fresco The Death of General Wooster, and did portraits of his fellow Italians, Christopher Columbus and Americo Vespucci, as well as John Fitch, William Brewster, and others.
