Abstract

Rural areas from Romania are still characterized by poor access to quality water and sanitation. The study addresses the drink water physical-chemical quality of private wells in Iara Commune, Cluj County. Water samples from 6 individual wells in Iara Commune as well one sample of water from groundwater abstraction source, were analysed with the main purpose of determining the following compounds and quality indicators: pH, conductivity, permanganate index, dissolved ions, metals, and the results were compared with the limits allowed by the legislation in force. The results, regarding the physical-chemical indicators measured, generally showed a good quality of underground water resources, except for nitrate content in several samples, revealing risks due to the presence of local polluting sources, or possible poor wells exploitation and maintenance practices.
