Abstract

Here the author mixes up the legal system with the legal publishing system of the Qing dynasty. I Circulating the Code i examines the legal system of the Qing dynasty from the non-official perspective by looking at the "production, circulation, and reception" of the legal knowledge. In the conclusion, the book also argues that because of the publishing revolution the Qing legal system was "less centralized, less arbitrary, more flexible, and more commercialized" than previous scholarship has led us to expect (188).
