Abstract

Postpartum pyrexia complicates 5% of pregnancies, with an infective cause identified in 50% of cases. Sepsis occurs when an infective cause results in multi-organ dysfunction and this accounts for a significant proportion of maternal deaths. The most common site of sepsis is the genital tract. It is also important to consider non-infective causes amongst the differential diagnosis. In the following article infective and non-infective causes are discussed together with relevant investigations and management. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
