Abstract

This essay considers the prospects for digital media to generate interological thought. While digital media depend upon the inter- and make it newly visible and thinkable, the most common modes of engagement with digital media encourage a selforientation, temporal horizon, and action tendency that undermines these prospects by encouraging ontological thinking and practice instead. This argument is developed through the example of scrolling on social media in comparison with meditation, illustrating how scrolling is more of an immeditative mode concerned with the self, Chronos, and attachment that runs counter to the egolessness, timelessness, and nonattachment of meditative modes.
