Abstract

In this article, I explore the concept of democracy as unstable and exclusionary. Drawing upon both the historical emergence of the concept and an overview of recent events in the US alongside concerns for the decline of democracy globally, I question the stability of the concept and the lack of definition within educational application. These concerns provide the background for the four articles in this issue of ACT, which interrogate various assumptions related to democratic practices in music education. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
