Abstract

Bat echolocation research: Book Reviews 493 tools, techniques and analysis. However, BER "second edition" (this book; BER 2020) does not really feel like a second edition, far from it. For instance, within BER (2020), chapter 2 (acoustic survey design) reads very differently from chapter 4 (echolocation call identification). Despite the disappointments in hoping that survey design (chapter 2) would offer real guidance on putting together a study and providing tips (chapter 3) on choosing a bat detector by actually providing tangible choices, the editors of BER (2020) did a commendable job in a short period of time to cobble together a refresher volume as a companion to BER from 15 years prior.
