Abstract
- Intercultural communication is an established field of study. Many reasons are given for why we should train students to know, understand and communicate with others who are from dissimilar backgrounds. This raises important questions: How do we define and describe people from dissimilar backgrounds, and what biases do we bring in those definitions and descriptions? An analysis of two editions (sixth and seventh) of an intercultural communication textbook indicated negative depictions of Hindus and Indian, including idiosyncratic examples about Hindus, Hinduism, and Indians. Consequences of such depictions on student perception is discussed, and the future of intercultural communication research is considered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
