Abstract

This article reports that in 1968 Robert Tribble ventured into the world of publishing and never looked back. Why should he? Thirty-six years later, his company, Trib Publications Inc., owns 26 weekly newspapers, four weekly "shoppers" and the seven press plants that produce them. Tribble's holdings radiate throughout Georgia and the Southeast — from his hometown of Manchester, about 65 miles southwest of Atlanta. Tribble's operation is lean, "maybe a little too lean," he admits. Paid staff at his newspapers can vary between two to 20 employees. He's been advised by his son, Mitchell, who also works part-time at Trib Publications, to hire someone who would focus on growing revenue.
