Abstract

The article focuses on shell mapping. Constellation shaping is a technique that improves the efficiency of high-rate digital communications by reducing the average power without compromising the data rate or bit error rate. Higher-dimensional constellations can provide even more average power reduction. The primary practical challenge of shaping is to efficiently index the very large number of points in a high-dimensional, shaped constellation. Beyond two dimensions, simple tabulation becomes infeasible.
