Abstract
- As more consumers shopped online, sales fell at many stores. The business of brick-and-mortar retailing in the Chicago area, already prettytough just a few months ago, is facing a bleak future as retailers andrestaurant owners try to survive a pandemic that has largely shut them down. The decline in retail sales has revenue implications for just about everygovernment body, including the state of Illinois, which charges a 6.25 percentsales tax. [Extracted from the article]
