Abstract

The article offers information on the Pietà which is a work of Renaissance sculpture by Michelangelo Buonarroti, housed in St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City. It discusses that the statue was commissioned for the French Cardinal Jean de Bilhères, who was a representative in Rome; and mentions that to convey the lifelessness of Jesus Christ, Michelangelo added details observed from an actual lifeless body.
