Abstract

This article contains the results produced by an international group of industrial managers, engineers, consultants and researchers who came together in a Roundtable meeting to formulate recommendations for integrating people, organization, and technology in modem advanced manufacturing environments. The wink of this Roundtable was focused on identifying what human factors knowledge manufacturing industry should be applying now to improve its competitive position. The Roundtable also proposed a R&D framework and agenda for the future which is aimed at ensuring that industrial and government funded research is directed at areas where industry can derive benefits or where deficiencies exist in relation to the design and operation of advanced manufacturing enterprises. Many specific ideas that industry can act upon immediately are presented and 43 areas for future research are identified and discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
