Abstract

The influence of C45 carbon black modified with H<subscript>3</subscript>PMo<subscript>12</subscript>O<subscript>40</subscript> (C45-MPA) on the electrocatalytic activity of a composite hydride electrode containing LaNi5 hydrogen storage alloy was analyzed. There was a reduction in the overpotential and an increase of the exchange current density for the hydrogen evolution reaction on hydride electrodes containing C45-MPAin comparison to unmodified electrodes. A significant increase in both the discharge capacity and kinetic parameters of composite hydride electrodes, which is associated with the addition of C45-MPA to the electrode, is a promising result indicating the catalytic activity of heteropolyacid in a strongly alkaline environment.
