R.J. Reynolds Elevates Data Protection.

The R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. is a manufacturer with 5,800 employees. As a result of new Web and warehouse applications, the company's nightly data backups were not being completed until the next business day. Underutilizing its storage media took up storage space in its data centers, required extra storage silos to store its media, and increased manual tape handling by operations personnel. The manufacturer deployed two virtual storage solutions - a StorageTek Virtual Storage Manager and Computer Associates International's BrightStor Vtape software solution. The combination of technologies contributed to a reduction in storage silos from seven units to two units.
