Abstract

In the discharge measurement work of lateral canals and field ditches, the accuracy of the traditional one- and two-point methods can barely satisfy the actual needs of the irrigation area. In this paper, a new type of channel flow measuring device and its accuracy improvement method are presented. The calibration and verification of the flow measurement system are carried out by laboratory tests. Results show that the mean absolute percentage errors (MAPEs) of the traditional one- and twopoint methods are 24.99% and 13.44%, respectively, whereas the MAPE of the proposed measurement system is only 3.04%. The proposed measurement method has higher measurement accuracy than the traditional methods and is a new and effective tool for channel flow measurement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
