Abstract

Information has been presented, which outlines the struggles and strategies utilized in overcoming opportunities to learn to read and write, in general, and acquire the knowledge of higher education, in particular. Also, included is information that has presented a characterization of the qualities and contributions of concerned persons, both black and white, who have aided in the academic improvement of African American students. Finally, information has been presented, which presents the case for the continuation of HBCUs because of their unique contributions in an era of professed color blindness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
