Reprints are presented of an article from the August 1, 1918 issue of the "Neue Musik-Zeitung" music periodical listing first musical performances such as "Gunlöd" by Peter Cornelius, the opera "Sonnenwendnacht" by Gustav Cords, and the opera "Magdalena" composed by Fritz Koennecke, and another article from the October/November 1968 issue of the music periodical "Musikalische Jugend" on the alleged decline of music conservatories.
