Seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii in Pigs from Chongqing, Southwestern China.

1109 pig sera samples from 3 counties (Rongchang, Yongchuan and Liangping) of Chongqing were tested for anti-Toxoplasma gondii antibodies using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The overall seroprevalence ranged from 7.59 to 11.46% with an average prevalence 9.02%, breeding sows having the highest prevalence 17.89%, followed by fattening pigs 9.44% and piglets 4.58%. The results of the present study indicated that T. gondii infection collectively point to potential in pigs in Chongqing Municipality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
