Abstract

A study was conducted in 46 goat flocks to assess the seasonality of goat pox in Thanjavur District of Tamil Nadu. Twenty random samples from twelve goat flocks with clinical signs of pox lesions were analysed. All the samples were confirmed to be positive for goat pox by polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). The prevalence of goat pox was found to be throughout the year. Which was higher during the months of December, June and November. The average morbidity, mortality and case fatality rates from January 2016 to December 2016 were 64.5%, 15.4% and 21.4% respectively.
