Abstract
- We report the reactivity of a new Mn<superscript>I</superscript>(cyclam) complex (cyclam: 1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane) toward O<subscript>2</subscript> and H<subscript>2</subscript>O as a model for the photoinhibited species of oxygen-evolving complex (OEC). The reactivity varies according to the number of CO ligands. A Mn<superscript>I</superscript> dicarbonyl complex, [Mn<superscript>I</superscript>(cyclam)- (CO)<subscript>2</subscript>]<superscript>+</superscript> reacts with O<subscript>2</subscript>, but not with H<subscript>2</subscript>O, to form a bis(μ- oxo)Mn<subscript>2</subscript><superscript>III,IV</superscript> complex, though a Mn<superscript>I</superscript> tricarbonyl complex, [Mn<superscript>I</superscript>(cyclam)(CO)<subscript>3</subscript>]<superscript>+</superscript> does not react with either O<subscript>2</subscript> or H<subscript>2</subscript>O. Newly synthesized Mn<superscript>I</superscript>(cyclam) dicarbonyl complex was characterized by ESI mass spectrometry, UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, and X-ray analysis.
