Abstract

This study used Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) as the raw material to fabricate the nano-fibrous membrane applied in the high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter by using electrospinning technique. Firstly, the suitable electrospinning conditions of concentration, flow rate and collector rotation speed are examined to obtain the finer fiber diameter. Then, the pore size and filtration efficiency of the nano-fibrous membrane were investigated. This study used the Quality factor, Qf to be the indicator of measuring the filtration efficiency quality of the nano-fibrous membrane. It was found that the effect of the fiber arrangement on the pore size and filtration efficiency were of little significance. While, the fiber arrangement and basis weight of membrane has the more significant. When the collector rotation speed increases, parallel degree of fiber increases, thus decreasing the pore size and increasing filter efficiency. When the fiber membrane-based weight increases, the pore size decreases and the filter efficiency increases. The experiment results indicate that the nano-fibrous membrane with the performance of the smaller pore diameter 0.66pm gets the higher filtration efficiency 99.58%, and its quality factor (Qf) value up to 1.12.
