Abstract

The article discusses the use of cartoons for propaganda by the Chinese resistance against the invasion forces of Japan. Cartoons served an important purpose at the time since an estimated 80 percent of Chinese were illiterate. Topics considered include patriotism, the newspaper "Shun Pao" founded by British resident Ernest Major, the Nationalist Party (KMT) and Communist Party, and the periodicals "Salvation Cartoons" and "Anti-Japan Cartoons."
