Abstract
- The article focuses on problems faced by gay couples Christopher Rigdon and Sergio Sarmiento related to legal marriage of same-sex people in Houston, Texas. They were refused the marriage license application according to Texas law. As the two rode down in the elevator Rigdon's eyes glistened with tears. Sarmiento, a citizen of Colombia will face deportation if he and Rigdon cannot legally marry. With a proposed federal amendment looming on marriage, Rigdon said he and Sarmiento would be forced to leave the U.S. for another country that recognizes same-sex marriage. At the moment, they have their eye on Canada. The couple also participated in the Marriage Equality Day demonstration held on February 13, 2004 in Houston, an event that was duplicated in cities across the U.S.
