Abstract

Liquid amine scrubbing has been widely and intensively investigated at demonstration scale to capture CO 2 at mass CO 2 emission sources, such as thermal power plants and steelworks. However, CO 2 regeneration process in a desorber is energy intensive, which limits implementation of this capture technology. Herein we propose an alternative CO 2 capture method by electrodialysis. CO 2 in a flue gas or blast furnace is trapped in aqueous K 2 CO 3 , and the resulting solution is condensed by electrodialysis. The trapped CO 2 is finally recovered under vacuum. This technique can significantly reduce the required energy to capture CO 2 in comparison to the current technology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
