Abstract

This paper gives a review over common tendencies of the reformations initiated by Petrus Valdes, Franciscus of Assisi, John Wyclif influencing Jan Hus and further the German, Swiss and French (not so much the English) reformations of 16<superscript>th</superscript> century. Comenius confessing himself a hereditarian of Jan Hus acknowledged him as the One who realized as well the reform of the doctrine as the reform of Christian lifestyle. This notwithstanding he made a difference to Jan Hus (who was a follower of Wyclif’s and St. Augustine’s doctrine of predestination) by which Comenius took stand nearer to Martin Luther than to Jean Calvin. And with his central hope for „Panegersia“ and „Panorthosia“ he took position near to Origines’ hope for „Apokatastasis panton“. Definitely we may say that Comenius transformed the whole of as well traditional as of critical thinking in the history of Christian theologies by his early (17<superscript>th</superscript> century!) vision of the ecumenical conciliary movement („consultatio catholica“) which we try to foster in the beginnings of the Third Christian Millennium. Not yet is recognised the enormous impact of his thinking also looking at church affairs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
