Abstract

The article discusses how international education programs, using the University of California's excellent Education Abroad Program (EAP) as a model. The compromises regarding language are devastating and demoralizing, and educators have to console themselves with scenarios of students witnessing the use of the local language in the field and becoming interested in achieving fluency. Data tracking is difficult when it comes to which students are doing their work in which language and where.
